There is a lot of talk about SP1 for Windows Vista, when it was started and when it will be released.  I have heard that they have been working on it since February and it should be released in the 2nd half of 2007.  Has anyone heard anything a little more concrete?

I've heard similar.  Lots of tech news sites these days are saying late 2007.  They all seem to say that it should be adding a lot of the features that Vista was supposed to include originally.  So it might be a while.  They also say they are going to update the OS kernel up to the kernel that is being released with Widnows Server 2008.

So I'm guessing look for it in about 3-5 months.

Good.  (not soon enough)  I think Vista is still pretty buggy.  Granted I think it might be my copy...

I bought a Toshiba laptop with XP and a Vista upgrade, but when the vista upgrade came it wasn't a regular upgrade CD... I had to run it in xp and it did a really Long ugly port job into vista.  It saved all my data on the drive... but it took 6 hours to upgrade and there have been a bunch of issues.

DVD's wont play, files are moved and inaccessible etc.  And I think the User account controll is incredibly annoying and counter productive.  Since it asks your permission to do anything, including things that you started and windows knows is safe, you just get in the habit of clicking OK to everything.  The message could come up and say "Click ok to pay ten million dollars to download a virus that will erase your hard drive and take your firstborn" people would click OK without reading because they are so used to it. So you just shut it off.  dumb.

Here's my Service pack wish list:

Adjustable user account control -- like the internet options security settings, a little slider bar that lets you adjust how strict or loose the security settings are.

Better wireless controll. Mine is not as consistent as XP, and I think navigation through the controls is awkward.  They also need to let you set profiles--a static IP for your work wifi, network settings for your home network, and bumped up security for hotspot connectivity etc.  Let you easily change workgroup settings, IP settings, and preferences.

MULTI MONITOR TASKBAR.  I can't believe they didn't add that. It shouldn't be hard.  and they have had multi monitor support since 98. (I know there are 3rd party software solutions... but the free one isn't great, and the good one is expensive)

I know there are more, but I'm on a comfy XP machine now so I can't think of them.

I just installed Vista and I like it and dislike it.  It is very neat and pretty and I need to get used to it but turning off all the automatic crap that pops up all the time is annoying.  My graphics card is cutting out all the time and microsoft is trying to tell me how to fix the problem although that doesn't work and my sound driver doesn't work either and their isn't a vista driver for it out there.  So I am hoping that maybe Vista SP1 will solve some of these problems.  I have heard that some people can get vista to install their sound drivers automatically and so maybe with SP1 that will fix mine (although I doubt it).  I am excited for SP1 none the less.
