I have a PC that operates on Windows 98 that is hard wired into my network and the Printer is wired into the PC.  My laptop operates on Windows Vista and connects wirelessly to the DSL Router fine for surfing the net but I am unable to connect to the Printer wirelessly.  I've gone into both PC and Laptop and did the whole file/printer sharing thing but it doesn't work still.  It doesn't look to me like they see each other.  I can plug the printer into my usb on the laptop and it works fine.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Are the two operating systems not compatible?

I am hoping to get this right without having to buy more gear.

You'll need to make sure all of your LAN settings are correct.  Make sure that both computers are in the same workgroup.  Also, make sure your computer's are both in the same IP group.  The easiest way to do that is to just have both computers set to use DHCP, which will automatically assign them the IP addresses.

If you look in the network window of Vista, can you see the windows 98 computer?  if not, there's something still wrong with those settings.  Once you can see it, you should be able to just double click on the computer then right click on the printer and choose install.
