So who will be the champ HD DVD or Blu-ray?

Considering any fallout from Blockbusters decision to side with Blu-ray thing could be interesting.

Also the fact that Disney has chosen the Blu-ray format.  Hmmmmmmm....

Well on positive note for HD DVD, Sony's PS3 is selling terribly here in the US:

MAY 2007 US RETAIL HARDWARE SALES (All numbers approximate)
1) DS: 423,000
2) Wii: 338,000
3) PlayStation Portable: 221,000
4) PlayStation 2: 188,000
5) Xbox 360: 155,000
6) PlayStation 3: 82,000
7) Game Boy Advance: 81,000

I'm going to wait for the dust to settle.  I wouldn't buy either one at their current prices.

Blu-Ray has a lot going for it, even if it has a stupid name that people don't realize is associated with something like an HD DVD format.  But i agree with Sam.  I'm just going to wait it out.

I mean the Xbox 360 (good if you have a 360) HD DVD is only $199.99 and comes with King Kong which is an alright option.  One of the problems is that HDTV's have simply not penetrated the US market enough yet.  And I think lots of people think to themselves "whats the point of getting this when my DVDs already look great."

Time will tell I guess.

I will end up going with whatever makes it big but I would chose Blu-ray for two reasons.  1 - Because the companies that I have heard that are going to be using Blu-ray are good wholesome companies that have morals where as HD DVD is being supported by some questionable companies.  2 - I think it is good to get a new name for electronics like Blu-ray instead of HD DVD, I mean where are they going to go from there. Super HD DVD, Hyper Super HD DVD and so on.

Personally I'm a little surprised that blu ray is still in the running.  The cost is out of the ballpark for mass popularity, where HD DVD is getting within reach.  (I saw an HD DVD at a local brick and mortar for $250)

Blu-Ray seems to have put a lot more into marketing, maybe that will help them win straight out, but if they are pumping a lot of money into it, I don't know how much cash Sony has to throw around, they've taken some pretty big hits this year.

Maybe they will eventually make a player that can read either format...

LG has some drives that will play both.  They are pricey though.  With Blockbuster choosing Blu-Ray only.... HD-DVD is going to have to pull off something big to stay in the running.  They are going to need a lot more titles coming out.

I'll be interested to see how hollywood video reacts.  Will they follow in the footsteps of blockbuster or will they decide blockbuster's move just gives Hollywood the competitive edge on HD-DVD?
