I have tried all the above and also followed the same basic instructions on page 13 at http://www.coolgear.com/images/317474EnglishManual.pdf

Still no go.

With the Dell cable it would print out half the time if I sent only 2 to 3 pages at a time to the printer.

With this new cable nothing prints out.

 Sad

What brand and model printer is it?

It's an oldie but a goldie: H-P LaserJet 2100.

It's a great printer and I just sank another $100 into it by buying a new toner cartridge.

When I ordered my Dell last year, I was adamant about getting a parallel port added to it. They said "no problem, just pay an extra $25". I told them to do it.

When the computer arrived it had only USB ports and came with a USB/Parallel port cable for the printer. But it only printed sometimes. I never knew when it would work.

 Angry

I just don't get it.

Is it a software problem or a cable problem? Shouldn't all cables work whatever ends they might have?

I am also having a problem. Have an HP laserjet 1100 and just got a new compaq preario SR5262NX computer with Windows Vista. It won't recognize the printer.  Got an SW-7383 USB to Centronics cable that came with adapter. Have tried everything numerous times. Anyone come up with solutions? My other printer, a new Epson stylus 120 works fine when plugged into the same USB extension cable that I am trying to plug the hp into. My printers are too far away from the computer to plug in without an extension cable. And the extension plugs into a hub. Will that affect it?

With the old usb/parallel cable supplied by Dell the combination would print sporadically especially if I just sent 3 or 4 pages at a time to print. Try for new USB.
