I know that all the specifications on the USB to ExpressCard reader show that it will connect to any "USB Based" Express Card. What does that mean though? I've heard from our tech support that they've had good success with various aircards and some basic I/O cards (like serial, parallel, etc.). Does anyone know how to guarantee the Express Card is USB based before a customer buys one, though? I'm open for input.

This is just overheard from Jordanelle but I heard him say that firewire expresscards wouldn't work - makes sense since it's totally different technology, that's just the only one I know about...

Unfortunately the only way i've read is to call the manufacturer.  Too bad that's not a common detail that larger companies would tell all their tech support / customer support reps.  So you may not be able to get that information from people.

If the same company makes a similar device that connects USB then you can be pretty guaranteed it will work because the manufacturer probably uses the same chipset for both.

Other than that, it seems like you just have to give it a shot.  Plug it in.

And yes, Firewire cards don't work.  We tried.   It would have been amazing to solve the USB to Firewire question we get all the time. haha.

We'll let ya know if we find any other reliable way to tell, but at this point those are the only options we have.

I seem to recall reading on the USB white papers that the two protocols should be interoperatible. It also mention parallel, but we all know that doesnt work.

The Siig product page for the usb to express adapter also states that if you are not sure to check with the manufacture of the product.  It would be nice if information like this were placed in the manual.

Important: This adapter only works with USB-based ExpressCard devices.  PCI Express-based ExpressCard devices will not be detected.  Please check with your device’s manufacturer if you are not certain
