I have a 98se (gateway) and a xp (dell). After about 2 or 3 days of use,
i get this message. Th computer that gets it is the one doing the "connect".
I transfer the cable from one usb port to the other. then it work then I get the message again. this has been gone one for a year and I've been very patient.
there has to be a solution that is a real fix. parallel tests says pins 12,13 and 15
don't work when i get the message. do i need new hardware, drivers that can i do to solve this.

thank you for any help you can give.

What software are you using to make the file transfer?  Also, what brand of transfer cable are you using?

Since you are using the FastLynx USB transfer cable, I assume you are also using the Fastlynx software.  What build of the software are you using?

(if you're not sure, you can see it in the bottom right hand corner of the FastLynx program while you have it open)

You have a pretty old build installed.  The newer builds are required for good use with the USB bridge cables.  On both systems, have them connected to the internet, go into fastlynx and choose file -> check for updates.  Then download the latest build of 334.  That will allow you to update it to the latest version that has all the proper USB support.

If that still doesn't work, let me know.

Did you do the update on both computers? Do you have a third computer you can test it with? A third computer will tell us which computer is causing the error. What happens you you try to connect the other way? Also, when you reinstalled FastLynx, did you see the prompt to remove the FastLynx USB cable? And did you remove it? What is the USB cable showing in the device manager as?

Thanks,

Jordan

Which ever computer is the 'connect as client' is the  one with the problem.
I then re-install and/or reboot and it works. sometimes i get the message 'access denied ' then disconnect message or a message like 'function not working' and the disconnect message.  I follow the instructions on USB connect procedures when re-installing ,but that doesn't seem to work. i just re-boot and it works
or I switch the USB plugs around and that does the trick. As far as the device manager,
FastLynx
  FstLynx USB 2.0 bridge Cable

and its says its working even after disconnect message.
message.
I took both computers and started to switch From 'listen as server'
and 'connect as client'  and click the radio buttons on both
back and forth  without exit and got a 'no usb cable detected'
on the XP computer. the device drivers are OK
I re-booted the XP and the 98se says "the parameters are incorrect."
it flashes.

Throughtout this topic you have made references to Parallel and Serial. Have you been trying those connections as well as USB? Where did you get the cables for those connections? Are those the connections you are getting the error through?

Thanks,

Jordan

I'm sorry. What I meant to ask is why do you keep mentioning com ports? Are you using the USB cable? If so then Com ports are comlpetely irrelevant. If you are using a Serial cable then that will be important.  If you would like to try Serial or Parallel, then you might have better luck getting those connections to work on your PC. I don't think your error has anything to do with resouces(such as IRQs). It sounds more like a compatibility issue. At the same time we do not have any record of either of your USB controllers having compatibility issues with that bridge cable.
Thanks.
