I have a problem with the Quatech sp-100 card adapter. I installed the driver that came with the adapter, everything installed fine, tried my printer, worked fine, but when i tried an atmega 128 card reader, i had a problem with it. I opened the program to read the card, and i get "error reading card".  The only way I can get it to work for this reader is to force the interrupt request to conflict with my modem and audio driver. I also have to use Interrupt range value 3.
The problem is i lose my modem and my audio. I tried using all other input/output ranges, (one that i wasn't using) but it won't work, only input/output range:  0278-027F. When i check on resources, i see for this range in the bottom it says,"conflicting device list" Input/Output Range 0278 - 027F used by:
  ISAPNP Read Data Port
This is in the resource tab in device manager, for the quatech sp-100.
What i am puzzled by is why it works with the printer and not the card reader? Also tried using just a rs232 to usb cable and it didn't work. I tried everything with this device , but the printer also worked with this cable.
I have a Toshiba satellite laptop, using windows xp media edition.
Is there a solution to getting my audio to use a different I/O range, or the modem?
This is very annoying as i wanted this adapter to work all my devices. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as i have tried all the teckie help forums and advice that's out there.
Will this work or will i have to get a laptop that has serial and parallel connections? Huh

A lot of devices can run on different I/O addresses, which would be why your printer worked, but your other device did not.

What i would recommend is going into the properties for your modem and/or sound card and seeing if you can set it to a different I/O range.  If you can do that, it will hopefully allow them to run without conflicting.  Sometimes those things can even be changed in the system BIOS.  So you may want to check that on your laptop and see if they have allowed those options through there.

If you can't get that to work, you may want to check for updated software for your device.  Check to see if they have an updated version that will work on a different I/O range.  That way you could just leave the quatech card at a different range.
