Hi again

I have a sizeable library of MP3's on my PC which I have been meaning to organise,

sort into correct folder names and assign thumbnails to each album

so album art will be displayed correctly under Windows Media Center and WMP10.

The question I have is this - will my "settings" persist

if I move this entire MP3 folder to another machine and then 'add' this folder to the new machines library?

I'm trying to ensure that if I spend the best part of 12 hours doing this

my efforts won't be in vain when I come to transfer my MP3's to another machine.

For example... say I have one album, it sits in a folder called "Stereophonics - Performance and Cocktails".

In this folder are the tracks for the album and a single albumart jpg.

If I use windows media player library to ensure all the album, track, year etc details are correct

AND add the album art from the same folder - Will these details (inc artwork) be only referenced for my local machine

(where i did the editing), or is the MP3 tagged/updated with the details I provide?

Thanks guys - I just dont want to go adding album art to all my albums only to find that should

I do a rebuild I would have to do it all again.

Cheers,

The folder structure you build would obviously be preserved when you transfer from one computer to another.  The MP3 Tag information, I.E. Artist name, song name, album, year, track, etc., is all saved within the MP3 file itself.  So when you move it over to a different computer that will be preserved as well.

Most MP3 programs will search the directory of the mp3s for the album art file.  So as long as you have the jpg file located in that same folder it should also be preserved on the new computer.  This method only really works if each album has it's own folder. (which i would highly recommend anyway)

That one isn't as guaranteed to move over since the file is not going to be directly linked to any of the mp3s, other than that it would be in the same folder.

So the MP3 Tags would definitely be worth going through, those will be set for good.  The album art should be saved as well as long as you have good directory orginization.
