Just received  my DVI-D (Dual Link) Male to 2 DVI-D (Dual Link) Female Splitter Cable from Sewell.
http://sewelldirect.com/DVID-male-to-female-splitter-cable-1ft.asp

Trying to setup two ViewSonic VX2235wm monitors to my Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop.
Each montior will work by itself but using the splitter both screens are black.

Unfortunately this is often the case when connecting to a computer video card.  The Video card's DVI port is not actually built to run 2 monitors like that if it did work to get signal to both monitors it would be the same picture on both monitors.  it would not act like an extended desktop monitor

A few video cards will support two outputs from a single port, it is usually marketed as "Dualhead" capability.   Our VTbook PCMCIA card will do it, and some Matrox cards will as well, however it is pretty rare.

There are three options to add video from a laptop (unfortunately all are more expensive than a splitter cable)
1, an add on card (VTbook if you have a PCMCIA slot, or the Belkin Docking station if you have ExpressCard)
2, the Matrox Dualhead2go (Digital) Which will take your existing video output and allow you to connect two monitors (it essentially makes the computer think that you have one, double wide monitor)
3, An external video card like the SW-8769  That will use a USB port to add a separate video display.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I got the two monitors to work.
I connected one to the digital output, the other to the standard VGA output.
There is a little difference on the VGA but I can live with that.
Thanks again for your help.
